Starting Salary: $38,482.86

Schedule: Monday-Friday 0800-1700 (Adjustments to meet needs of program)

 

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS

Under the general direction of the Administrative Sergeant, the Re-Entry Coordinator manages the Re-Entry program. The Re-Entry program is designed to establish education, vocation, and job-training programs for the inmates detained in the Hernando County Detention Center. The program addresses employment challenges facing incarcerated adults re-entering local communities and the workforce.

Employment Services, Job Placement, Job Skills Training and General Education are key components the Re-Entry Program. The Re-Entry Coordinator will maintain responsibility for supporting participants in developing personal employment goals, improving employability skills while incarcerated and executing career plans post-release. The expected outcomes are consistent with increasing employability skills and employment placement via improved workplace preparedness, general education, and attainment of industry-recognized credentials for in-demand occupations in Hernando County.

The Re-Entry Coordinator maintains responsibility for assessing program participants’ capacity for developing personal employment goals, improving employability skills while incarcerated, and supporting career development post-release.

The Re-Entry Coordinator also assists participants in securing state identification, restoring government financial benefits, finding medical, mental health, and housing assistance as necessary.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Serves as an ambassador of the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office Re-Entry program.
  • Delivers employability skills training to include GED programming.
  • Provides career guidance and mentorship to participants as needed.
  • Assists in conducting program participant intakes, eligibility verification and documentation.
  • Administers evidence-based education and employment skills assessments.
  • Utilizes assessment results to inform the development of the participants’ career plan, which will take the form of the individual development/case plans, which will include employability skills, interests, and identified career pathways.
  • Instructs in job seeking, application procedures, resume writing, interview preparation and job retention skills.
  • Assists in conducting outreach and in executing recruitment processes consistent with the program goals.
  • Engages in employer site visits, community organizations, and businesses throughout Hernando County to market the Re-Entry Program and develop potential placements for participants and identify emerging beneficial employment skills
  • Provides guidance and monitor individual participant employment and career development activities as outlined in the case plans in order to track progress of their progress toward attainment of identified employment goals.
  • Carries a participant caseload for employability skills development, job placement and post release job retention support.
  • Participates in outreach and recruitment activities by coordinating and attending job fairs.
  • Collaborates with the business community for appropriate job placement activities.
  • Collects data from employers related to job orders including job requirements and skills.

 

  • Assists program participants with obtaining and completing forms and documents necessary for transition (i.e. transcripts, birth certificates, state identification, and social security cards).
  • Assists participants with restoring government assistance opportunities prior to release, as necessary.

 

  • Accurately tracks, input data, and maintain comprehensive case files (physical and electronic) for participants.

 

  • In conjunction with the offender and community resources, develop an individualized case plan to increase likelihood of obtaining work skills, meeting social needs, and reducing recidivism.

 

  • Tracks recidivism rates for program participants.

 

  • The Re-Entry Coordinator maintains responsibility for assessing program participants’ capacity for developing personal employment goals, improving employability skills while incarcerated, and supporting career development post-release.

 

  • Prepares forms and reports related to placement activities and prepare other reports, as required.

 

  • Represents the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office on the Public Safety Coordinating Council in accordance with Florida Statute 951.26.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

  • Knowledge of alcohol and drug addiction recovery needs and processes.

 

Training and Experience

  • Must have a minimum of an associate’s degree from an accredited college or university in Business, Social Sciences, Education, Human Services or related degree field. Prefer bachelor’s degree in same disciplines.
  • Must have a minimum of two years of experience in delivering employability skills training, re-entry work, social work, adult education, or combination of these skills.
  • Must have proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to successfully navigate through the internet, excel, power point, and other applicable software.
  • Knowledge and/or experience working in a jail/prison environment and knowledge of the criminal justice system preferred.

 

 

Essential Physical Skills

  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
  • Performing the duties of this position requires the ability to walk, sit, stand, reach, talk, hear and lift presentation materials, including equipment up to 20 pounds.
