Peer Support Team
Philosophy of the Peer Support Team
- The Peer Support Team (PST) knowledge is dynamic and resources are constant to change. The team is designed to provide resources and assistance to employees during a time of need. Member on the team is not to diagnose individuals or conduct fit to duty analysis. They are to provide the best resource and assist that individual to seek help.
- Once an individual has obtained a position on the team, he/she is expected to remain on the Peer Team for a minimum of two years.
- Each Peer Team member should possess and demonstrate special skills that could enhance the team’s capabilities. Each member should demonstrate characteristics of initiative, job interest and dedication in the field of mental health and Law enforcement.
Selection process
- To be considered a candidate, applicants must have completed all probationary requirements.
- Candidates must participate in an oral board interview with the Peer Team Commander and Team Leaders.
- Candidates must also submit a memorandum for consideration to the PST advisor. Please include background, qualification, and experience.
Formal Training
- Members of the Peer Team shall receive technical training in areas of mental health catered to Law Enforcement.
In-House Training
- Periodic and regularly scheduled in-house training shall be conducted at the discretion of the Peer Team Commander and the Peer Team Leaders. The location and curriculum shall vary for each training session. Instructors specialized in the areas of mental health shall be selected in accordance with training objectives.
