CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS
The Accreditation Specialist is responsible for assisting in the planning, coordination and processes for accreditation and policy review. Updating and maintaining policies and regulations to stay in compliance with FMJS, FCAC, ACA and PREA. Manage all collection of documentation for file review and audit.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
  1. Identifying, verifying, and reconciling compliance with established corrections standards. Notifying any unit with noted deficiencies through policy, training or other administrative measures as directed by the Administrative Sergeant.
  2. Review all policies on an annual basis to confirm the agency remains in compliance and stay abreast of all aspects of accreditation, to include proposed amendments to the standards.
  3. Develops new policies upon request. Reviews and revises the agency online written directive manual annually. 
  4. Assists with the coordination of all accreditation assessment on-sites.
  5. Utilizes Power DMS for all policy and compliance reviews as well as maintains a working knowledge of all updates to the software. Ensure proper utilization of the Power DMS to track and maintain all documentation for compliance.
  6. Additionally, the Accreditation Specialist will assist the Administrative Sergeant in any duties relating to the Prison Rape Elimination Act and stay current with all training as it is introduced.
  7. Act as an instructor to incoming inmates by educating and instructing daily to watch and acknowledge the inmate education provided. 
  8. Creates and updates documentation to be implemented or reviewed and revised for the Prison Rape Elimination Act, to include the inmate handbook, admission screenings and acknowledgments and posters throughout the facility.
  9. Perform additional duties as directed by higher authority.

QUALIFICATIONS
    Training and Experience
  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent demonstrated level of competence in work performance which is determined by the Agency to be acceptable during a period of employment not to exceed the designated probationary period.

    Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of FMJS, FCAC, ACA and PREA standards and the accreditation process.
  • Ability to prepare, proofread, and maintains accurate documents, reports, records, files, and materials.
  • Ability to plan, organizes, and prioritizes tasks in order to complete assignments in a timely manner and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work quickly and accurately without constant supervision. 
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment such as Windows operating system, copy machine, and scanner. 
  • Ability to manage and distribute documentation in Power DMS. 
  • Ability to type a minimum of 35 correct words per minute.
  • Ability to work pleasantly and professionally with coworkers, supervisors and the general public.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS
  • Ability to communicate orally. 
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. 
  • Ability to walk unassisted. 
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction) 
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid) 
  • Ability to carry moderate weight (i.e., boxes, shredded reports, file stacks, etc.)
