2026 LIEUTENANT PROMOTIONAL PROCESS

Promotional exams for law enforcement lieutenant and detention lieutenant will be held beginning on Monday, May 11, 2026 in the main training room of the Sheriff’s Office. Please carefully review the information below and attached for details regarding eligibility, application process, and the testing process. It is the candidate’s responsibility to comply with all requirements and deadlines.

Please refer to the attached job description for lieutenant (supplemented by post order 7103.01 and 7103.02), which includes the qualifications and eligibility requirements. Also attached are the lists of study materials and reading requirements, as well as General Order 3042.00 – Promotional Process, which describes the process for selecting personnel to fill the vacancies.

There will be an orientation for prospective exam participants on Friday, March 13, 2026, at 11:00AM, at the Hernando County Building Training Room, located at 789 Providence Blvd.

Law Enforcement testing will be conducted May 11 – 15, 2026 in the main training room, starting promptly at 9:00AM each day.

Detention testing will be conducted May 18 – 20*, 2026 at the detention center, starting promptly at 9:00AM each day. *Possibly complete on May 19, 2026.
 

The testing process will consist of four elements - Written Examination, Problem Solving Exercise, Oral Interview, and Role Play Exercise.
