BUREAU: LAW ENFORCEMENT OPERATIONS
SUPERVISED BY: SERGEANT OR DESIGNEE
The Major Cases Section has the responsibility of:
- Conducting follow-up and/or original investigations.
- Identification and apprehension of persons perpetrating crimes.
- Coordinating and assisting with the collection, identification, evaluation and preservation of evidence in (assigned) criminal investigations.
- Proper and independent preparation of all cases investigated for the State Attorney's Office, Grand Jury, and other prosecutorial or judicial authority.
- Responding as directed to crime scenes to conduct special investigations, interviews of suspects, complainants, and witnesses.
- Follow-up investigations, when assigned.
- Investigating, when assigned, any cases concerning crimes against minor children.
- Preparing concise written reports of investigation.
- Developing informants for the purpose of gathering information, criminal intelligence, and evidence associated with criminal matters.
- Performing public relation duties as assigned.
- Appearing at State Attorney's Office investigations and court sessions as required.
- Attending specialized courses and seminars as required.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Investigators assigned to the Major Cases Section are responsible for the follow-up investigations of most felony crimes, and other criminal investigations as assigned.
