PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Operations corporals are responsible for ensuring the orderly, secure and efficient operation of the area assigned. Operations corporals are responsible for supervising subordinates and providing assistance and guidance. Operations corporals will be responsible for adherence to agency rules, regulations, orders, procedures, and other operating directives. The Operations corporal reports directly to the shift commander

SPECIFIC DUTIES:
The Operations corporal’s responsibilities are:
A. General duties:
- Train, supervise and evaluate members in their assigned duties;
- Provide guidance in developing professional job performance;
- Execute orders of superiors;
- Treat all members fairly and equitably;
- Recognize members for exceptional work performance;
- Counsel members in a dignified manner, when necessary;
- Cooperate with all agency members and other criminal justice and law enforcement agencies;
- Initiate remedial or disciplinary action, when necessary;
- Ensure orderly facility operations;
- Maintain accreditation standards.
- Coordinate medical escorts.
- Ensure inmate disciplinary boards are conducted.
- Actively participate in counts as outlined in General Order 7050.09 – Inmate Counts;
B. Roll Call:
- Verify the member’s schedule to ascertain if any shift members have called and reported an illness or any other emergency;
- Verify the duty roster prior to roll call with the shift commander and adjust the roster, as necessary;
- Read information that must be passed on to the shift prior to holding roll call;
- Follow any announcements given by the shift commander and discuss assignments, problem areas, and any items of interest or concern to shift members.
- Inspect each deputy at roll call for appearance; and
- Conduct Detention Division Directive, General Order, and/or training bulletins and other training at roll calls.
C. Supervise deputy duties:
- In-house cell assignment / reassignments;
- Random inmate and cell searches;
- Head counts;
- Completeness of paperwork;
- Guardian RFID logs;
- Ensure proper interaction between staff and inmate; and
- Ensure proper cleanliness of the facility.
D. Perform personnel actions:
- Shift scheduling;
- Ensuring accuracy of shift personnel time sheets;
- Maintain shift personnel absence-tracking sheets;
- Deputy evaluations and performance observation reports;
- Deputy training and familiarization;
- Ensuring adherence of members to established policies and procedures;
- Counsel and discipline members as required; and
- Follow up on all orders given.
E. Incident reports:
- Ensure incident reports are accurate;
- Complete required investigations before the end of shift;
- Thoroughly investigate Response to Resistance Reports (RTR), interviewing deputies, inmates, and witnesses involved. Ensure inmates are seen by the medical staff within 30 minute after the RTR unless circumstances dictate otherwise. If the inmate appears to be injured, the inmate will be transported to the hospital, whichever is indicated based on the type and extent of the injury; and
- Review incident reports to determine if there is a need for further action to include criminal charges and or disciplinary action.
F. Administrative duties:
- Prepare the daily shift assignment roster assigning deputies to posts;
- Ensure an inspection of each housing area is conducted on each shift; conduct a cell structure integrity inspection and a minimum sanitation and compliance inspection at the beginning of each shift as described in General Order 7050.08 - Facility Supervisory Inspections.
- Televisions, Telephones, and Tablets shall not be accessed by the inmate population until the on duty supervisor and assigned deputy complete the minimum standards sanitation compliance inspection and the cell structure integrity inspection. If the housing unit or cells are not in order or meet minimum sanitation standards, these privileges will be restricted until the standards are achieved.
- Scan privileged inmate correspondence into the Legal Cart in accordance with General Order 7065.01 – Inmate Mail / Correspondence.
- Supervise random, unannounced housing unit searches and conduct structure checks utilizing a mallet;
- Supervise periodic drills to ensure staff familiarization with proper procedures;
- Conduct rounds, review and sign necessary paperwork;
- See and talk to each inmate in disciplinary and administrative segregation at least once on per shift; and
- Perform additional duties as directed by higher authority
