CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:

The Real Time Intelligence Crime (RTIC) Analyst will conduct various technical and criminal research tasks to support investigative processes. The RTIC Analyst duties require the ability to work independently, exercise sound judgment, and quickly assimilate information pertaining to criminal activity. Additional duties may be assigned as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • This RTIC Analyst position is responsible for research and analysis of law enforcement data; identification and interpretation of criminal activity, patterns, and trends; and forecasting trends to aid in staffing and deployment of law enforcement personnel.
  • Analyzes daily criminal activity reports to identify methods of operations, trends, and possible suspects to assist law enforcement personnel to solve or prevent crimes.
  • Supports and assists detectives directly in the compilation and analysis of information regarding complex criminal investigations.
  • Requests, receives and investigates information of a confidential nature concerning criminal activity.
  • Responds to inquiries whether in person, by email, or by telephone; produces special reports as required or directed by the Crime Analyst Manager.
  • Prepares and disseminates strategic and tactical reports, spreadsheets, charts, and maps from analysis findings in the form of bulletins, memos, alerts, maps, etc.
  • Attend training courses in crime analysis as determined by the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office.
  • Assist other areas as requested.


QUALIFICATIONS
A.   Training and Experience
  • High school diploma or G.E.D.
  • One (1) year prior law enforcement or military experience is preferred.
  • Within two years, successfully completion of the FDLE Law Enforcement Analyst Training program and other prerequisite courses.
  • Experience navigating through various law enforcement specific technology and programs preferred
  • Experience using Law Enforcement CAD or Records Management System preferred.
B.   Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to become proficient in the principles, concepts, methods and techniques of crime analysis.
  • Knowledge of computer data systems and software programs.
  • Knowledge of law enforcement operations and procedures.
  • Ability to handle confidential information.
  • Knowledge of county demographics and geography.
  • Ability to communicate orally.
  • Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.


ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
  • Sit for long periods of time
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction).
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without hearing aid).
