CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
Under the general supervision of the Bureau Commander. In this position, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing all machinery and vehicles. Your duties will include inspecting vehicles, assembling of Patrol Units and monitoring inventory. Have a strong attention to detail, with excellent communication and customer service skills. Work requires knowledge and skill in the performance of minor mechanical task involving routine repair, maintenance and servicing of vehicles and related equipment. .Employee may be on call for emergency repairs. Performs other work as requested. Complete assignment s as directed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs preventative maintenance and minor service work on vehicles and related equipment.
- Makes service calls and minor emergency repairs in the field as required.
- Maintain work orders on computer system for all repairs and maintenance records.
- Properly install/remove two-way radios, mounts, sirens, mobile data terminals, temperature monitoring systems, various types of antennas, and emergency lighting and siren speakers as required.
- Monitor inventory and order stock and non-stock items from local suppliers. Assist with conducting stock item inventory.
- Repair or replace worn, damaged or defective mechanical parts
- Repair and service air conditioning, heating, engine cooling and electrical systems.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent qualification. Certification from vocational school or trade school is preferred. A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role. In depth knowledge of vehicle diagnostic equipment and mechanical systems.

- Knowledge of basic mechanical skills in minor repair and maintenance.

- Strong attention to detail with an aptitude for problem-solving.

- Perform routine and scheduled maintenance services, inspect belts, hoses, steering systems, brake and fuel systems, wheel bearings, tires and other potentially troublesome areas. Skilled in using, the standard methods, practices, tools and shop equipment of the automotive mechanical trade.

- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.

- Ability to diagnose, locate, define, adjust, and/or repair minor defects in vehicles and equipment and make necessary repairs quickly and efficiently both in-house and on road calls.

- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.

- ASE Certification – Must have an ASE certification for General Maintenance and Light Repair Technician or be able to acquire within one year of employment.

- Must maintain a valid Florida Driver’s license at all times.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
- Able to stand for long periods of time
- Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
- Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds of weight
