CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
Under the general supervision of the Corporal performs mechanical work of average to above average difficulty and responsibility in connection with the scheduled maintenance and repair of Sheriff’s Office aircraft. Work requires knowledge and skill in the performance of minor mechanical tasks involving routine repair, maintenance, and servicing of aircraft and related equipment. Employee may be on call for emergency repairs. Performs other work as requested.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Performs daily preflight/post flight inspections on flight line aircraft.
- Performs routine in-house maintenance on all agency aircraft as well as Scheduling/performing FAA required maintenance inspections on aircraft.
- Performs preventative maintenance as required to keep aircraft safe, operational, and to control budgetary operational expenses.
- Maintains aircraft records and log books as required by FAA as well as parts inventory.
- Assists in maintaining the appearance of hangar facility and aircraft; to be kept clean and presentable.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills
- Knowledge of basic mechanical skills necessary for repair and maintenance of type aircraft the agency operates.
- Knowledge of and skill in using, the standard methods, practices, tools and shop equipment.
- Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions of the trade.
- Ability to diagnose and repair defects in aircraft and equipment; make necessary repairs quickly and efficiently.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
B. Training and Experience
- High school diploma, GED, or vocational training, or equivalent supplemented by work experience in aviation for a minimum of two years, preferably helicopter experience.
- FAA Airframe and Power plant (A&P) certification/qualification
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
- Able to stand for long periods of time
- Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
- Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and lift up to 50 pounds of weight
