CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
The Body Worn Camera Unit Coordinator is responsible for supervising and managing the operational functions of the Body Worn Camera (BWC) Unit. This position ensures proper deployment, accountability, training, and maintenance of all body worn cameras and related equipment. The coordinator serves as the subject matter expert on BWC technology, relevant Florida Statue requirements, and agency policy while supporting sworn and civilian personnel across the organization.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Supervises BWC Specialists, including scheduling, mentoring, performance oversight, and monitoring of payroll and attendance.
- Oversees distribution, inventory control, replacement, and lifecycle management of BWC equipment and accessories.
- Serves as the primary liaison with Body Worn Camera System vendors to resolve technical issues and coordinates system improvements.
- Conducts training and demonstrations for personnel regarding proper use, care, and uploading of Body Worn Camera System equipment.
- Responds outside normal business hours for active investigations or critical system issues as required.
- Ensures adherence to agency policy and Florida Statute requirements when handling, categorizing, and releasing digital evidence.
- Performs troubleshooting and diagnostic support for Body Worn Camera System equipment and software.
- Conducts audits to ensure retention, labeling, and compliance standards are met.
- Maintains documentation, procedures, training materials, and operational reports.
- Prepares recommendations for equipment, software, and training enhancements.
- May require evening, weekend, or holiday response depending on operational needs.
- Maintains strict confidentiality and security compliance regarding sensitive and protected video evidence.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Training and Experience
- Associate degree from an accredited college or university in a field related discipline preferred. Practical experience in the field can be substituted for the formal education requirement.
- Five (5) years of experience working with Body Worn Camera Systems or similar digital recording systems preferred.
- Basic computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and general office technology.
- Prior law enforcement or public safety experience preferred.
- Two (2) years of supervisory or lead experience preferred.
- Valid Florida driver license.
B. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of Body Worn Camera System equipment and digital evidence management software.
- Understanding of applicable Florida Statute retention and release requirements.
- Ability to prioritize and multitask in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and customer-service skills.
- Technical proficiency with equipment and software troubleshooting.
- Attention to detail and strong organizational abilities.
- Willing and able to review images that may be disturbing and/or graphic in nature.
- High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to lift/carry BWC equipment and supplies as needed.
- Ability to work in both office and field environments.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
- Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
- Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
