CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
The Body Worn Camera Specialist is responsible for supporting the Sheriff’s Office Body Worn Camera program. This position is responsible for maintaining BWC equipment and digital evidence, processing public record requests, and ensuring compliance with applicable Florida Statute. A high level of professionalism, confidentiality, and accuracy is required.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
  • Issues, tracks, and maintains Body Worn Camera equipment for personnel.
  • Downloads, categorizes, and manages digital evidence within the Body Worn Camera System. 
  • Reviews, processes, redacts, and prepares digital evidence for release in accordance with Florida Statute and agency policy. 
  • Assist with public records requests related to BWC footage.
  • Troubleshoots basic equipment issues and coordinates repair.
  • Maintains documentation, logs, and chain-of-custody regarding evidence handling.
  • Monitors evidence retention and ensures compliance with retention policies.
  • Communicates professionally to support both operational and legal needs while protecting sensitive information without exception.
  • Provide occasional after-hours response to support critical incidents.

QUALIFICATIONS:

A.    Training and Experience
  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, or digital evidence environment preferred.
  • Basic computer proficiency including Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and electronic file systems.
  • Ability to interpret and apply Florida Statute regarding public records and evidence.
  • High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information is required.
  • May require evening, weekend, or holiday response depending on operational needs.
B.   Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks under deadlines.
  • Effective verbal and written communications skills.
  • Willing and able to review images that may be disturbing and/or graphic in nature. 
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
  • Ability to lift/carry BWC equipment and supplies as needed.
  • Ability to work in both office and field environments.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in writing.
  • Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. 
  • Acceptable eyesight (with or without correction)
  • Acceptable hearing (with or without correction)
