JOB TITLE: SOFTWARE ENGINEER

BUREAU: ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES

SUPERVISED BY: DIRECTOR OF INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
 


CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:

Under the direction of the Information Technology Director, performs technical, programming, and analytical work of moderate difficulty in the administration of Sheriff’s Office information management systems. Responsible for the maintenance and organization of agency’s custom software applications and databases. Work involves the use of programming logic, teaching skills, development and maintenance of database programs and responsibility for extraction of data for use in managerial/statistical reports.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Develops and maintains Sheriff’s Office in-house applications to meet operational and management needs. Supports applications from third party vendors.

Creates and maintains programs for the extraction of information used to create managerial and statistical reports on a monthly, quarterly, and as-needed basis.

Provides specialized training to other members of the Sheriff’s Office.

Provides technical assistance to other members of the Sheriff’s Office.

Performs programming and analytical tasks as directed by the Information Technology Director.


QUALIFICATIONS:

Training and Experience

Minimum of four (4) years of software development experience.
 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

Possesses knowledge in relational database management and software development.

Ability to design and build new data-driven applications from concept to completion.

Ability to maintain and enhance existing applications.

Ability to quickly comprehend new applications and equipment and to make recommendations for their use, as necessary.

Ability to effectively communicate with Sheriff’s Office employees, County officials and members of the community on both a technical and non-technical basis, as necessary.
