CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CLASS:
Under the general supervision of the Sergeant of Professional Standards Office, performs highly complex, responsible, and professional duties inherent in the Training Unit and Professional Standards Unit. Duties will include the assimilation and compilation of training data and records pertinent to the accurate completion of all reports related to all functions within the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office. Work involves responsibility for gathering information accurately and compiling such information into the necessary format to complete the assigned tasks with minimal direction. The position is also responsible for assisting the Professional Standards Unit, as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Requests, receives and generates agency training reports and data for entry into necessary databases.
- Maintain all training records and files.
- Assist in developing and maintaining training programs to include handouts, lesson plans, and other training material.
- Organize and schedule agency in-service training on an ongoing basis.
- Maintain accurate training records for the agency and notify personnel of required training as well as other training that may be available.
- Be knowledgeable of the requirements of the Criminal Justice Standard and Training Commission as they affect the agency.
- Perform other training related duties as well as Community Outreach duties/function on an as needed basis.
- Prepare and submit training files for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
- Assist other portions of the Professional Standards Unit as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS:
A. Training and Experience
- High school diploma or GED, college degree preferred.
- Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience as either a law enforcement officer or in a law enforcement support position. Administrative experience is highly preferred.
- Posses a valid Class E (operator) driver license.
- Ability to accurately type and proof records for accuracy.
B. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to speak clearly, understand, read and legibly write correspondence.
- Knowledge of office policy and procedures.
- Ability to direct and coordinate activities with various groups.
- Working knowledge of advanced computer software and hardware applications.
- Ability to gather and analyze data.
- Knowledge of principles, objective methods and techniques in modern administration.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other agencies,employees, and the general public.
- Ability to work independently without supervision.
ESSENTIAL PHYSICAL SKILLS:
- Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally.
- Sit or stand for long periods of time.
- Possess manual dexterity sufficient to perform required job skills.
- 20/20 vision (corrected/uncorrected).
- Ability to hear conversation at a normal level (corrected/uncorrected).
